On the 11th of January, militants of the Ahrar al-Sham militia launched an attack on an outpost in the western countryside of Aleppo held by the Assad regime’s Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in coordination with Iranian-backed militias. These attacks were largely successful and a video of the attack began circulating on jihadist media channels on the 13th of January.
The footage can be found below.
We have been able to geolocate the exact position of the attack to the coordinates of 36°13’43.0″N 36°54’22.5″E. This locates the SAA outpost 21 km West of Aleppo, in the village of Bala, close to the larger town of Anjara.

Below is a before and after photo posted by a jihadist social media profile after footage of the attack came to light.
This attack comes at a time when normalisation between the Syrian and Turkish governments is becoming ever likelier, and as a result, Turkish funded militias such as Ahrar al-Sham are stepping up their fight against regime-aligned forces to show their disapproval of any process of normalisation.
